Serenity Johnson

My name is Serenity Johnson.

I'm running to represent our community by serving as one of your city council members in Radcliff, Kentucky.

Serenity Johnson

About Me

I am a proud resident of Radcliff, and I want to see our city thrive.

I wasn't born here in Kentucky, but I've called Hardin and Meade counties home for over fifteen years now. This area is important to me. And in my time living in Radcliff, I've grown ever more attached to my city.

As a candidate for elected office, I believe in proactive leadership, not just waiting until after issues grow into problems. I believe in staying engaged with the community, because our elected representatives can't represent us if they aren't available to listen. I believe in learning from the leaders that came before me, and passing what I learn on to those who come next. And I believe in planning ahead for the future, because the actions we take today will determine our tomorrow.

For the past decade I've worked in retail, the same as some 10% of American workers. In that time I've filled various roles as a regular associate, a supervisor, and an hourly manager. It opened the door to countless opportunities, and taught me important skills in leadership and planning. When the global Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020 and most people were at home in lockdown, I worked overtime to keep food on store shelves.

I want to take these ideals I'm passionate about and the skills that I've learned, and apply them. Civic participation is important to me. I'm running for city council to become more involved in my community, to help play a part in charting our city's course for the future, and to encourage other people—especially my fellow millennials and other young people—to become more civically engaged.

Radcliff City Hall

The Role of City Council

Our city council plays a huge role in how our city operates.

In Radcliff, our city council consists of six elected members. The council works with the mayor and other city officials to pass ordinances, work out the city budget, and plan for the future of our city.

As one of your six city council members, my job will be to...

  • Vote in city council meetings.
  • Work to advance specific city ordinances to be considered.
  • Help oversee the city's budget and spending.
  • Give a voice to specific issues for attention that are important for our community.

Being a city council member doesn't give any one person the power to dictate the city's future. It's a position all about communicating and working with others. It also requires someone who can listen to their fellow residents and help address needs in the community. That's a responsibility that I take seriously, and one I hope to fulfill in the near future as one of your city council members.

When you vote in the primary this May, you will be able to select up to six of the candidates on the ballot. I ask that you cast one of your votes for me, Serenity Johnson.

My Priorities

Here are some of the things that I believe are important for our city. They're what I think we should work towards.

Keeping Radcliff Affordable

As Hardin County grows we have to make sure that the people who live and work here in Radcliff are able to afford to do so. Affordability is about more than just housing. It's also about the services we provide and the way our city looks out for its residents.

Encouraging More Local Options

We should continue to encourage the expansion of shopping, dining, and recreational options here in Radcliff. People shouldn't always have to travel all the way to Elizabethtown or Louisville for something to do.

Investing in Our Infrastructure

The city must continue to secure grants and funding to ensure adequete drainage systems and to expand our sidewalk network. We must also keep working with the county and our fellow cities over the coming years to pursue the REMPO plan for public bus service in Hardin County.

Spending Our Resources Wisely

Our city worked hard to pay off its debts. While there are times to borrow money to move large scale projects forward, we should prioritize working within our means.

Looking Beyond Just the Dollar Signs

As we decide on spending and budgeting, it's important to know that the dollars we spend aren't just for monetary gain. Sometimes they're for our safety, for building our community, and for our kids and their future.

Additional Resources

It takes more than a single person to create change in their community. Let's cooperate to build a Radcliff that we can continue to be proud of!
