Serenity Johnson

My name is Serenity Johnson.

I'm running to represent our community by serving as one of your city council members in Radcliff, Kentucky.

About Me

I'm a proud resident of Radcliff, and I want to see my city continue to thrive!

I wasn't born here in Kentucky, but it's been the place I've called home for nearly fifteen years now. And in my time living in Radcliff, I've grown ever more attached to my city.

For the past six years I've worked in retail, the same as 10% of American workers. In that time I've filled various roles as a regular associate, a supervisor, and an hourly manager. It opened the door to countless opportunities, and taught me important skills in leadership and planning. When the global Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020 and most people were at home in lockdown, I worked overtime to keep food on store shelves.

I believe that Radcliff is more than just a place to drive past, it's a destination in its own right! I'm running for city council to become more involved in my community, to help play a part in charting our city's course for the future, and to encourage other people—especially my fellow millennials and other young people—to become more civically engaged.

Radcliff City Hall

The Role of City Council

Our city council plays a huge role in how our city operates.

In Radcliff, our city council consists of six elected members. The council works with the mayor and other city officials to pass ordinances, work out the city budget, and plan for the future of our city.

Being a city council member doesn't give any one person the power to dictate the city's future, and the city council doesn't have sweeping authority to micromanage every aspect of city life. For example, if we want more local restaurants, the council cannot simply select a location and make it so—but they can advance and implement policies and programs that encourage businesses to open up in the city and that help them stay afloat.

As one of your six city council members, I will be able to...

  • Vote on your behalf in city council meetings.
  • Work to advance specific city ordinances to be considered.
  • Have a say in deciding on the city's budget and spending.
  • Prioritize specific issues for attention that are important for our community.

It's a position that's all about communicating and working with others. It also requires someone who can listen to their fellow residents and help address their needs in the community. That's a responsibility that I take seriously, and one I hope to fulfill in the near future as one of your city council members.

When you vote this November, you will be able to select up to six candidates on the ballot. I ask that you cast one of your votes for me, Serenity Johnson.

My Priorities

Here are the things that I believe are important. They will take time and effort, but they're what I think we should work towards.

Making Radcliff a Destination

We want our city to be a place worth visiting, and a place worth living in. We should continue to build on the things that make Radcliff unique and wonderful.

Keeping Our Housing Affordable

As Radcliff and Hardin County grow we have to make sure that the people who live and work here in Radcliff are able to afford to do so, and that there is an adequate supply of housing to accomodate that growth.

Even Footing for Local Businesses

Keeping our economy afloat takes many hands. However, it shouldn't just be big outside firms and investors who are making profits. Our local businesses should have equal opportunities to be able to prosper and grow.

More Walkable Streets

I want to vote for policies that make our streets safer and more friendly to pedestrians. I want the city to work on expanding our sidewalk system, especially where there are gaps between existing sidewalks.

Encouraging More Local Options

We should continue to encourage the expansion of shopping, dining, and recreational options here in Radcliff. People shouldn't always have to travel all the way to Elizabethtown or Louisville for something to do.

Investing in Our Future

As we decide on spending and budgeting, it's important to look beyond just the dollar signs. The dollars we spend can't always just be for future monetary gain—sometimes, they're for our safety, for building our community, and for our kids.
